Case study: LoSurdo’s grocery - Sydney


Background

LoSurdo’s is an independent, family owned, premium fresh food grocers in Northbridge, Sydney. Although LoSurdo’s is run with old-school values, they wanted to provide their customers with a modern-day experience. As such, they went to great lengths to organise the best store layout possible to draw in customers and keep them coming back for more.

Reasons for implementation

Robert (the owner) believes ‘If it’s not good enough for me, it’s not good enough for my customers. Therefore, only the very best will do.’ So when he saw FutureShelf’s premium labels, he knew straight away that he needed the technology for his store, as outdated paper labels would detract from the store’s premium feel.

Selling daily fresh produce, LoSurdo’s love promoting the latest seasonal fruit and vegetables, and as such often run special pricing on items that are in season locally. Changing product prices can be arduous and Robert quickly saw the benefit of electronic shelf labels for his operational management, as well as for customer appearances.

Solution

Due to covid, there were plenty of delays in bringing furniture and other store fit-outs to Australia. Much of this furniture arrived just a few weeks before the scheduled open, putting time pressure on the installation of the labels. Robert was delighted to say that “FutureShelf went above and beyond to ensure that LoSurdo’s had a solution to install the labels onto the shelves and integrate with the IT system in time for the launch, despite the fact that we did not give them a great deal of time to prepare.”

Outcomes

On day 1 the store was packed with customers who had nothing but positive things to say about the store aesthetics and the electronic labels. One customer was quoted as saying “This is the best grocery store I have ever been to, I especially like the digital labels, very modern. I feel assured I'm always getting the latest and freshest available produce, at the most up to date competitive price.”

Summer, Co-store Owner commented “FutureShelf has been great to work with. We had very specific needs for our store and the FutureShelf team have always been very responsive and helpful when we have looked to make changes to the label templates or accessories. They visited the store frequently during set-up and launch and were very hands on in their approach, I would definitely recommend working with them”.
